After the loading of the bus we took the Autobahn to Schreitzheim where our hotel is located. Since it was a rainy day the traffic was going about the speed of US highways (it's only a four lane highway). Our director said that sometimes driving on the Autobahn you will be passed by a Porsche going 120 or more but most cars have slowed down these days because it's safer. So much self-governance by the public, it's impressive.
After a rest we drove to Heidelberg, the home of the oldest university in Germany. It's located in a lovely river valley that produces lush vegetation. We visited the square or plait in town and visited the church and surrounding shops. The locals are friendly, everyone rides bikes with baskets and several of the baskets held bouquets of flowers, so lovely.
We see these beautiful half timber houses everywhere, most of them are 200 years old, rebuilt in the 18th century.
Our hotel is sparse and open with separate duvets for each of us. So comfortable. Here's me on our deck.
More tomorrow. We have difficulty finding wifi spots when we are not very busy traveling and sight seeing.
Having a wonderful time and missing everyone.
I'm a little disappointed that you went so slowly on the autobahn but I suppose in the rain, in a bus, it was quite responsible. ;-) Love that bridge!
ReplyDeleteJust now catching up. You look fabulous my dear. What wonderful architecture. Maybe someday I'll get there.
